Introduction to Handling Charges

🔔 Note: this article is part of the CartonCloud Academy - WMS Charging Trail. Please ensure you have read Sale Order and Purchase Order Charges Explained first. 🎓

The next type of charge we are going to look at is Handling Charges. Handling Charges are charges applied to incoming and outgoing orders and cover the costs associated with picking and putting away orders.

CartonCloud allows for flexibility with how you charge your handling rates by offering a number of different Putaway and Picking Charge Options. The Putaway and Picking Charge Option dictates how your handling charges are calculated.

Follow along with Brittany as she explains what handling charges in CartonCloud are and the different picking and putaway charge options available.

Handling Charges and Aggregation

Now that you know the different handling charge methods available, we can take a deeper dive into one charge method in particular, the default method of ‘Scale to highest unit of measure’. This method will scale the products to the highest unit of measure and charge the handling rates in that manner. However, with this charge method you can choose to use different aggregation options. By default, no aggregation will apply, however, you do have the option of aggregating by SKU by location or by SKU across the entire warehouse.

Follow along with Brittany as she explains the different aggregation options and how they are applied.

Aggregation options

Picking Charge Aggregation Options Explanation
Aggregate by SKU across the entire warehouse Regardless of what location the products for a Sale Order are in, they will be aggregated
Aggregate by SKU by location CartonCloud will aggregate all products for a Sale Order in the same location, regardless of whether they are from different POP records
No aggregation (default) Products will not aggregate together

How to create a Handling Charge

Handling Charges and Rounding

Let’s take a look at handling charges and rounding! When you are using the Default (Scale to Highest Unit of Measure) handling charge method for either Picking or Putaway you will need to select a Charge Behaviour (rounding option) and an aggregation option. We have already covered off aggregation so it is now time to look at rounding options.

Follow along with Brittany as she steps through how rounding applies when using the Scale to Highest Unit of Measure handling charge method.
