Please note that if your CartonCloud account was created prior to 1 July 2019 the below functionality may not be available at this stage. If you would like to discuss migrating to the newer version of the CartonCloud TMS, please contact: support@cartoncloud.com.au

Zone Sets are the defined geographical areas your operation uses for allocating deliveries and determining delivery rates. Zone Sets provide the framework and logic for CartonCloud to automatically assign consignments to Delivery Runs and calculate consignment charges. For Zone Sets to work, Delivery Runs, Transport Lanes, and Transport Rates must also be created as the different logic for each work together to provide this core functionality.

To move straight to setting up your Zone Sets, see Creating your Transport Zone Set and Income Zone Sets

Zone Set Types

Income Zone Sets: Income Zone Sets contain the zones your operation uses for charging. These zones will be used when creating your Transport Rates to allow CartonCloud to automatically calculate your consignment charges. If the geographic regions you use for charging vary, see Using multiple Income Zone Sets

Transport Zone Sets: Transport Zone Sets are the zones your operation uses for allocating consignments. These zones will work in conjunction with Delivery Runs and Transport Lanes to enable CartonCloud to automatically assign consignments to the appropriate Delivery Run. Only one Transport Zone Set can be created.

Each Zone Set is made up of multiple zones and each individual zone is made of single or multiple suburbs and postcodes. When creating zones, you can associate as many or as few suburbs and postcodes with the one zone. This means you can create a zone for a state, city, an area within a city, or even a specific suburb.

Application of Zone Sets

To understand the application of Zone Sets we will use a hypothetical transport company, ABC Transport, that operates in the Gold Coast area.

The below map shows how ABC Transport has divided the Gold Coast into different zones for both its delivery allocation (Transport Zone Set) and rate calculation (Income Zone Set).

If ABC Transport has a consignment moving from Burleigh Heads to Paradise Point, CartonCloud will find the Income and Transport Zone associated with the suburbs Burleigh Heads and Paradise Point.

CartonCloud will then use the Income Zone pairing to find the associated Transport Rates and likewise use the Transport Zone pairing to find the matching Delivery Run.

Consignment 1:

  • From address: CartonCloud, 5/27 Dover Drive, Burleigh Heads 4220
  • To address: FoodWorks Paradise Point, Shop 1/3 Grice Avenue, Paradise Point 4216
  • Income Zones: Area 2 → Area 1
  • Transport Zones: GC Metro → GC North
  • Delivery Run: Metro Daily

Using multiple Income Zone Sets

ABC Transport has two Income Zone Sets, a Standard Income Zone Set and a Radius Income Zone Set. This allows ABC Transport to use different geographic definitions for calculating consignment charges for different customers.

For example, ABC Transport has two consignments for two different customers (Customer A and B) both moving from the same address in Robina to the same address in Helensvale. Customer A's Rate Card is associated with the Standard Income Zone Set and Customer B's Rate Card is associated with the Radius Income Zone Set (which is based on the distance from their depot).

Customer A's consignment will be traveling from Area 2 to Area 1 whereas Customer B's consignment will be traveling from Zone 1 to Zone 3. Even though both consignments have the same to and from address, the rates can be configured differently in accordance with the different Income Zone Sets.

Creating your Transport Zone Set and Income Zone Sets

Transport Zone Sets and Income Zone Sets are separate and unrelated, meaning the geographical zones you define for one type of Zone Set can also be used for the other. This also means there is no particular order that you need to create the two different Zone Sets in.
