Pallet Barcode Behaviour

What is a Pallet Barcode

The Pallet Barcode is the unique barcode associated with a pallet in CartonCloud. This barcode is used to track, move, merge pallets and locate the pallet to a warehouse location. The Pallet Barcode can be automatically generated or manually assigned to a pallet, depending on the situation.

When is a Pallet Barcode generated?

  • A Pallet Barcode can be manually generated via the mobile app before it is located (see Pallet Handling for more information)

  • A Pallet Barcode is automatically generated when it is assigned to a Bulk Pallet Location

  • A Pallet Barcode is automatically assigned when the stock is moved to a pallet barcode of existing stock in a warehouse location (it will take on the existing pallet barcode)

  • If the pallet has a unique reference custom field then a Pallet Barcode will automatically be generated when the unique reference is captured (if the Pallet Barcode hasn’t already been manually assigned to the Purchase Order Products)

  • A Pallet Barcode will be automatically generated for Purchase Order Products after they are bulk split. If the original Purchase Order Product being split already has a Pallet Barcode then it will be maintained, but the new split Purchase Order Products will receive new barcodes.

When is a Pallet Barcode not generated?

If none of the above scenarios applies, then a Pallet Barcode will not generate when:

  • You move an unallocated pallet with no Pallet Barcode to a single pallet warehouse location

  • When you move one pallet with no Pallet Barcode from one single pallet warehouse location to another single pallet warehouse location

  • If a Purchase Order Product already has a Pallet Barcode and all stock is being moved then a new Pallet Barcode will not be generated.

Pallet Barcode behaviour example scenarios

Stock is located from a Purchase Order to a single pallet warehouse location

  • A Pallet Barcode will not be generated (unless the Pallet Barcode is manually assigned or generated via the mobile app)

Stock is located from a Purchase Order to a multiple pallet warehouse location

  • A Pallet Barcode will automatically be generated

Stock is located from a Purchase Order with a unique reference into a single or multiple pallet warehouse location

  • Pallets with unique references will have a Pallet Barcode automatically generated when the unique reference is captured and the Pallet Barcode is retained regardless of the type of warehouse location it will be assigned to

Stock is moved from a single pallet to a single pallet (with some stock)

  • If the pallet is not allocated to a warehouse location, the stock that moves will retain the Pallet Barcode.

  • If the pallet was allocated to a single pallet warehouse location or bulk pallet location and the stock moves to a single pallet location then the Pallet Barcode on the moved product will be removed and it will have no Pallet Barcode.

  • If the pallet was allocated to a single pallet warehouse location or bulk pallet location and the stock moves to a bulk pallet warehouse location the Pallet Barcode will change for the moved product.

  • If the pallet was allocated to a single pallet or bulk pallet warehouse location and the product is moved but not allocated to a warehouse location the Pallet Barcode will be removed and the product will have no pallet

Stock is moved and scanned directly to another Pallet Barcode

  • The stock will take on the Pallet Barcode it has been moved to and the warehouse location
