Purpose
Storage Charges can be added for storage of customers Consumables or unusual products such as Office Files etc. Also, a similar procedure can be used to load storage in and not charge it, so it can show locations accurately and allow you to locate stock such as your own office files but not charge storage for them.
Customers Storage Charges for Consumables
To charge consumables they need to be entered as a Product, have their own Product Type assigned if they are charged differently to the rest of the Customer's Products and then have a different storage charge for the new Product Type if it's different as well.
- If the storage rates are different from existing products then first create a new Product Types called Consumables for example. Skip this step if the rates are to be the same as existing products for the customer. To charge Consumables at different rates i.e. different sized pallets or different types requiring different pricing, create more Product Types to cater to this e.g. Consumables, Consumables Large etc.
- Load a Product called Consumables (load more names if there are multiple types of them you want to easily identify as well), here is how to load Products. Make the Base Unit of Measurement a Pallet → this is to make management easier, so you can just put 1 pallet in each warehouse location to be charged. However, you can still use Cartons/Units etc if desired to track in more detail. Use the Product Type of Consumables created before, create more Products and use extra Product Types if multiple pricing is required. Generally use the Storage Charge type of Per Location (and bulk location pallets) for the product.
- Go to the Rate Cards and then the Storage Tab to load a price for the storage of each pallet of consumables in the locations. Load the charge against the Consumables Product Type created earlier, and load different pricing for the different types as needed. Note to track but not charge the customer, simply enter $0 as the charge for these.
- Create a Purchase Order and load in the Quantity of each Product created before, allocating a quantity of 1 pallet to each location that needs charging. Complete fully to allocated. To not charge your customers for this if required, go to the Charges tab of the Purchase Order and remove the automatic charging, then select Finalize Charges button to stop the system trying to calculate charges, on top of this a Misc Charge with Description of No Charge and value of $0.00 can be added too. An alternative to this is loading stock through the Stock Adjustments, through the Warehouse Location Adding Stock to a Warehouse Location through Stock Adjustments.
From here you can add more Purchase Orders and do Stock Quantity Adjustments or Sale Orders to increase and decrease the locations and pallets being charged each week as needed.
Your own Storage Charges for Consumables or Office Files
Similar to above with an extra step of creating an internal Customer so none of your customers get charged. For Example, Demo Logistics if your company was called Demo Logistics and then follow steps as above for tracking and location filling purposes without affecting customers. This gives you the benefit of accurate warehouse capacity statistics and checking empty locations for missing revenue for example.
