Purpose

To use the export and import function to either create or edit multiple Bill of Materials in bulk. 

Note, if you wish to use this function to create a Bill of Materials (BOM), you will need to first create all the Products that will be used to create the Bill of Materials (including the final product) in CartonCloud.

Prerequisites 

You must have already created in CartonCloud the:

  • Final Product of the Bill of Materials.
  • Products that will make up the Bill of Materials. 

How to Export and Import Bill of Materials (BOM)

Ensure you have created all Products required to create the Bill of Materials (including the Product that will become the final Product of the Bill of Materials).

To either create a new Bill of Materials or edit an existing Bill of Materials, you will need to:

1. Export the existing Bill of Materials from CartonCloud:

  • Navigate to the Products page, Warehouse>Products.
  • Select the blue More button in the top left corner. 
  • Select Export Bill of Materials from the drop-down menu. 

  • Select the bell icon in the top right corner.
  • Click Download Here for the Bill of Materials Export. 

2. Edit the exported file 

To create a new Bill of Materials:

  • Open the downloaded excel file. 
Leave the ID column blank.
  • Type the Customer's name into the Customer column. 
Ensure you have typed the Customer name exactly as it appears in CartonCloud.
  • Enter the final Bill of Materials Product code into the Parent Product Code column.
  • Find the Product code, by navigating to the Products list view page and find the Product code under the Code column. 

  • Enter the Product code for one of the Products that make up the Bill of Materials into the Child Product Code column. 
  • Enter the quantity into the Quantity column.

  • Repeat the above process for each Child Product Code that will be included in the Bill of Materials. 

To modify an existing Bill of Materials:

To edit the quantity of a Child Product:

  • Change the value in the Quantity column for the relevant Product. 

To edit or remove a Product that makes up the Bill of Materials:

  • Edit the product code in the Child Product Code column or delete the row if you wish to delete the Product. 

To edit the final Product of the Bill of Materials:

  • Edit the product code in the Parent Product Code column for each product row included in that Bill of Materials. 

To delete a Bill of Materials:

  • Delete all rows included in that Bill of Materials if you wish to remove the Bill of Materials altogether. 

To add a Product to an existing Bill of Materials:

  • Insert a new row under the Bill of Materials you wish to add to. 
  • Copy and paste the Customer and Parent Product Code from the relevant Bill of Materials. 
  • Enter the new Child Product Code and Quantity. 

3. Import the edited file back into CartonCloud:

  • Navigate back to the CartonCloud Products page. 
  • Select the blue More button in the top left corner. 
  • Select Import Bill of Materials from the drop-down menu. 

  • Click Choose file and then select the relevant file to import. 
  • Select Upload File

  • Select the bell icon in the top right corner.
  • Click View Results Here for the Bill of Materials Import. 

  • You will then be directed to the Import Results page. 
  • Under the Created tab, you will be able to see all new Bill of Materials successfully created.

  • Under the Updated tab, you will be able to see all modifications that have been made to the existing Bill of Materials in CartonCloud. By hovering over the green highlighted boxes, you will be able to see what change took place.

If you do receive an error, select the Error tab and hover your mouse over the red highlighted box. A message will appear explaining why the error occurred.
